About Sanstha

Rayat Shikshan Sanstha is one of the largest and leading educational institutes in India. It is recognized as the biggest educational institution in the Asia in terms of both quality and quantity. The Sanstha was founded by Padma Bhushan Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil in 1919 for its main objective to impart education to the poorest of the poor through self-help; irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The motto of the Sanstha is ‘Education through self-help’. The college runs ‘Earn and Learn Scheme’ which reflects the value of self education and dignity of labor. Adhering to this objective, the Sanstha has started Arts, Science and Commerce college, Mokhada in 1984 for overall development of 'Adivasi Community'

The College has been established by keeping into mind a mission of educating tribal, downtrodden and economically weaker sections of the society. The college is located in the tribal and hilly area of Mokhada tehsil of Palghar district (Maharashtra). In the Mokhada tehsil, this is the only higher education institute aided by Government of Maharashtra and U.G.C. providing education to the tribal area community. The students hail from about 100 distant villages and 'Pada'. About 90% students come from inaccessible area of the tehsil. 98.72% students belong to reserved categories and out of this 89.87% belong to scheduled tribes.

The college is recognized by the University Grants Commission with 2 (f) and 12 (b) and affiliated to University of Mumbai, Mumbai. The college was started in 1984 with Arts and Commerce faculty, while Faculty of Science was started in 2013. The college offers traditional and technical programmes in the conventional, non- conventional and professional modes. The college runs 3 streams viz. Arts, Science and Commerce with 9 UG programmes viz. Economics, History, Marathi, Commerce, Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology and 1 PG programme i.e. History. Apart from this, the college imparts skill and career oriented education through 3 short term courses sanctioned by National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF). The college runs 22 add on /certificate courses and short-term courses. A large number of students are benefited by support services and inter - disciplinary activities provided by the college. The college has highly qualified and experienced teaching staff, number of support services and established tradition to provide quality education to the needy masses.

The college also runs important best practices and some of them are i) Eradication of Malnutrition among children in Mokhada tehsil of Palghar District and ii) Digital Saksharata Training Programme for Tribal area students.

The institute aims towards capacity building for occupational and local needs, improved basic knowledge and quality of life through quality education. The disciplines are artistic, creative, culturally rooted and contemporary. The faculty and students having good coordination with people and communities, fulfilling its role in providing knowledge and information accessible to the people.

The IQAC of the college was established in the year 2009 and has been functioning as a catalyst for many processes about quality sustenance and enhancement. The recommendations made by the NAAC peer team have always been directed the succeeding perspective plans and all of them have been completed.
